Cholpon-Ata Petroglyphs

The Cholpon-Ata petroglyph field is a useful reminder that Issyk-Kul is not only a beach and mountain destination. The boulders preserve ancient carvings of animals, hunting scenes, and symbols connected with steppe and mountain cultures.

The site is open and exposed, so the best visit is slow and observant. Look for the carvings across different stones rather than expecting one single dramatic panel. Morning or late afternoon light helps the marks stand out.
