The Republic of India recognized the independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan on December 26, 1991. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on March 18, 1992. In September 1992, the Consulate of the Republic of Uzbekistan opened in New Delhi, and in 1994, this diplomatic mission was upgraded to the Embassy. The consular district of the diplomatic mission includes India, Bangladesh, the Maldives, and Nepal.
