The Republic of Indonesia recognized the independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan on 28 December 1991. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on 23 June 1992. In May 1994, the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia was opened in Tashkent. The Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Indonesia has been operating in Jakarta since December 1996. Relations between Uzbekistan and Indonesia, as well as between Uzbekistan and Vietnam, have been steadily developing in the political, trade-economic, investment, cultural-humanitarian and tourism spheres. The Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the parties regularly hold political consultations. During the official visit of Indonesian Vice President Maruf Amin to the Republic of Uzbekistan in June 2023, and the visit of a delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Jakarta in February 2025, the parties reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations and taking the partnership to a qualitatively new level of development.
