Park of 28 Panfilov's Men
The Park of 28 Panfilov's Men is one of central Almaty's most important public spaces. It commemorates the Panfilov Division, formed largely from soldiers of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, and associated with the defense of Moscow during the Second World War.
The memorial ensemble recalls the story of a platoon of 28 soldiers who resisted a German tank attack near Dubosekovo. During a visit, you can see the Monument of Glory, obelisks with names, and the Eternal Flame dedicated to those who fought against Nazism.
The park is also the setting of Ascension Cathedral, so the area works well as a combined route: memorial history, religious architecture, shaded paths, and everyday city life in one compact central stop.
