Republic Square
Republic Square is one of Almaty's central civic spaces, located along Satpaev Avenue. It was founded in 1980 as a place for major public celebrations, including New Year events and official holidays.
After Kazakhstan's independence, the square continued to be used for important gatherings. In 1992, Nauryz was celebrated here for the first time in the new national context. The square is marked by the Golden Warrior monument, a symbol connected with Kazakhstan's nomadic past and archaeological finds from Saka and Scythian-period burial mounds.
Today the square is a place for festivities, walks, meetings, and access to nearby shopping. For travelers, it is best visited with the Central State Museum and the Presidential Palace area, giving a concise view of Almaty's civic center.
