Khan Shatyr
Khan Shatyr is one of Astana's most distinctive modern buildings. The shopping and entertainment complex stands in the new left-bank part of the city, where government buildings, offices, hotels, residential districts, and public spaces form the planned capital landscape.
The complex opened in 2010. Its leaning spire and transparent tent-like form are visible from many points in Astana, making it a useful orientation marker as well as a destination. The project is widely associated with the city's futuristic image and with the boulevard route that leads toward Baiterek.
Inside are shops, restaurants, cafes, family attractions, and leisure spaces. The source site notes the unusual indoor aquatic area with waves and a beach atmosphere, which makes Khan Shatyr more than a conventional mall, especially in Astana's cold winter climate.
For visitors, Khan Shatyr can be a practical starting point or endpoint for a central walk. From here, continue along Nurjol Boulevard, enjoy fountains and city views, and end at Baiterek Monument or nearby civic landmarks.
