Russian Students Won Five Medals at the International Physics Olympiad in Uzbekistan

Five school students from Russia won four gold and one silver medals at the First International Physics Olympiad named after Al-Fergani, hosted from November 8 to 12, 2021 in Fergana, Uzbekistan.
As reported by the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, the competitions of the Olympiad were held in a mixed face-to-face and remote modality. The Russian students participated in the events in person in Fergana.
The five-day program included two rounds of the Olympiad, as well as excursions in Tashkent, Fergana and Kokand and other cultural programs. Accommodation, meals and cultural program costs are covered by the organizers of the competition.
In total, teams of students from 19 countries participated in the Physics Olympiad, including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Egypt, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Libya, Malaysia, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Senegal, the Sultanate of Oman, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan as the host country.
Ivan Kasyanov from the Altai Krai, Alexei Sanin from Bashkiria, Olga Terekhova and Radmir Zhumaev from the Moscow Province were awarded gold medals. The silver medal was won by Roman Maksimov from the Moscow province.
It is noted that Ivan Kasyanov from Biysk, who won the gold medal, also became the absolute winner of the International Physics Olympiad in Fergana.
The organizers emphasized that only those who provide vaccination certificates or negative Covid-19 PCR test results will be able to participate in the Olympiad. The Olympics will be held in compliance with all sanitary and epidemiological standards.
The international event was named after Ahmad Al-Fergani, a medieval scientist, astronomer, physicist and mathematician, known in Europe as Alfraganus. His works on astronomy were repeatedly translated into Western languages, highly valued in Europe and used as a teaching aid for students.
